Kissing is the simplest form of telling someone that you like them. It is also a great way to express your love for someone but apart from being a symbol of love and affection, there are multiple layers to kissing such as the science behind it, the health benefits related to it, and the origins of etymology.
So, if you want to know some facts about kissing, keep on reading.
1. You tilt your head to the right when you kiss
When going in for a kiss, some things just happen naturally, and tilting your head to the right is one of those things. But this is not a learned behavior or something you got from experience. In fact, it is something you learn in your mother’s womb. Medical experts claim that babies lean to the right in their mother’s womb, which is why it becomes a default instinct even when you grow up. Next time you kiss someone, you can even observe it for yourself.
2. Kissing puts 146 muscles to work
A loving embrace that seems almost effortless is not that effortless. When you kiss a person, you are using 146 muscles which include your 34 facial muscles and 112 of your postural muscles. Wondering how scientists discovered this? They conducted an experiment involving couples kissing underneath an MRI machine and this somewhat unconventional experiment yielded an unexpected answer too.
3. X’s have been used to symbolize a kiss since the middle ages
Signing your text messages off with X’s and O’s is not as modern as you might think. During the Middle Ages, when people were mostly illiterate, they used to sign off letters by writing ‘X’ and would kiss the letter or the document which would represent their honesty.
4. The world’s longest kiss lasted over 58 hours
This was the Guinness World Record that was attempted by Ekkachai and Laksana Tiranarat who managed to hold a kiss for 58 hours, 35 minutes, and 58 seconds.
These facts are going to make you want to give your partner a big ol’ smooch.
